"Herds of Bisons and Elks on the Upper Missouri"  -  This badlands landscape was first sketched by Bodmer in September 1833 as he sailed downstream from Fort McKenzie in a small boat.  As he drifted soundlessly by the animals, he was able to study them as they came down to the water.
